James Cameron is speaking out over Matt Damon’s alleged link to his epic science fiction movie. The director’s original release of Avatar earned critical acclaim and became a box-office smash. It’s among the highest-grossing all-time movies, raking in over $2 billion in theatres.
James acknowledges that he had a call with Matt, who expressed a desire to work on a project with him. Matt alleges he was pegged to play the lead role of Jake Sully and receive 10% of the movie’s profits. James gave his rebuttal to the Good Will Hunting star’s claims.
James Cameron says Matt Damon was “never offered” a role in Avatar

Matt being on the cast list for Avatar is news to James Cameron. The Titanic director tells The Hollywood Reporter that “He (Matt) was never offered the part.” James says they didn’t work together because of Matt’s lack of availability, but claimed they never got to the level of discussing Avatar.
“He’s (Matt) extrapolated ‘I get 10 percent of the gross on all my films,” said James. The director adds that if that’s what it would’ve taken to cast him in Avatar, then it wouldn’t have happened.
Even though he and Matt clearly aren’t on the same page about what their conversation entailed, James says he has no hard feelings towards him. James has been raking in the money from his hit movies, including Titanic, Avatar, and The Terminator. The Canadian-born director is reportedly now a billionaire.
The role of Jake in Avatar went to Sam Worthington, who starred opposite Zoe Saldana. The film has spawned two sequels with Avatar: Fire and Ash coming to theatres in early December. There are two others upcoming.
Matt has three upcoming film projects, including The RIP, which comes to Netflix in January. He’ll star in The Odyssey next summer.
