If you thought your 2025 was bad, at least you can take some solace in the fact you (probably) weren’t shot. Jillian Lauren, the estranged wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, can’t say the same. She recently opened up about the wild incident, including her arrest for attempted murder.

Jillian got herself entangled in a confrontation with the Los Angeles Police in April. Officers were searching for suspects in an unrelated hit‑and‑run incident when the writer reportedly came out of her house with a gun. After she refused to stop pointing the weapon at officers, she was shot and ran back into her home.
She was initially booked on suspicion of attempted murder, but the charges were then reduced to assault and negligent discharge of a firearm. She entered a two-year mental health diversion program that could lead to the charges being dropped if she is fully compliant.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Jillian said of the incident: “I was doing the best I knew to protect my family. [The] impulse was self-defense. My world fell to pieces around me in a heartbeat. It’s like, you spend your whole life just getting an entire deck of cards in order. And just take them and throw them up in the air one day, and I’m still waiting to see how they’re gonna land.”
She added: “I’m a victim of sex trafficking and domestic violence … I had to go back and work on trauma from a long time ago in order to try and understand myself now, my actions.”
The author filed for divorce from Weezer musician Scott earlier this month. She told the publication: “We’re people who grow. We’re passionate people. We’re creative people. You hope you’ll change and grow together. We grew apart.”
