The list of charges against Russell Brand keeps getting longer. Police have charged the ex-husband of Katy Perry with an additional count of rape and one of sexual assault. The comedian and TV host had previously been accused of rape, along with indecent assault and sexual assault, facing five charges in relation to those allegations.
Earlier this year, the actor pleaded not guilty to those five charges in London’s Southwark Crown Court. The allegations against the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor relate to incidents that reportedly happened between 1999 and 2005. Four women have claim sexual misconduct against him.
Russell Brand is charged with further offences after initial charges in April 2025
Russell Brand might be spending the holidays with his legal team. The Metropolitan Police officially announced on Tuesday that they had charged Russell with one additional count of rape and another of sexual assault.
Detectives began looking into the complaints registered against the UK actor in 2023. In their report, the first alleged incident involved a rape which reportedly took place in Bournemouth in 1999. The last incident in question supposedly happened between 2004 and 2005. That’s when a woman claimed to have been sexually assaulted in the Westminster area of London.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi said the women who have filed the reports are receiving support from specially trained officers, including those connected to the two new charges.
With these new charges against him, Russell must appear in the Westminster Magistrates Court on January 20 to answer to those two allegations. The Sunday Times began investigating Russell after sexual misconduct allegations against the actor began surfacing with them. Russell hasn’t been seen on screen since voicing the role of Mako in the 2023 film Under the Boardwalk.
Russell and Katy’s divorce was finalized in 2012. The 50-year-old slammed his ex-wife’s relationship with Justin Trudeau. A trial for Russell will begin at the Southwark Crown Court on June 16, 2026 related to those five original charges.
