Paul Rudd and Jack Black talk about their new movie, Anaconda, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE. Anaconda is an action-comedy film and is a meta-reboot of the 1997 film of the same name. Notably, Rudd and Black play aspiring filmmakers who embark upon this long and adventurous journey through the Amazon to film an amateur remake of the 1997 classic.

The Clueless actor gushed over Black by referring to him as a “hero of mine.” Rudd raved, “Every once in a while something will happen where I’m afforded the opportunity to get to work with a hero of mine. It happened on this one in the form of this old hunk of love.”

Although Rudd and Black have collaborated briefly on projects before, this is the first time they will be headlining a movie together. The FRIENDS star remarked, “It really was the first time. I really got to see [Black] in action. People are in awe, rightfully so, of him. And the greatest thing about all of that was, no matter who it was at whatever age, especially kids, Jack is such a good dude.”

Before adding that, see him “interact with every single person was astounding.”

Rudd also gave a shout-out to the duo’s other two co-stars, Steve Zahn and Thandiwe Newton. He said, “It’s the people, really, right?” The School of Rock star agreed and added, “It is the peeps. It’s funny, because in this movie we are playing filmmakers, and so in a way we are playing ourselves. It was very close to home.”

Furthermore, Black expressed his excitement for the comedic reboot of the original classic movie. He revealed that his and Rudd’s version of Anaconda follows “these friends that are going out to make their dreams come true. And that’s how I feel every time I go out to make a movie.” Anaconda will hit cinemas on December 25.
