Sigourney Weaver is opening up about a famous scene from the latest Avatar film. There is one particular one in Avatar: Fire and Ash that had many feeling a little uncomfortable.
The characters of Kiri, played by Sigourney, and Spider, portrayed by Jack Champion, have a scene where they kiss. There is a significant age gap between Sigourney and Jack, with the former in her 70s and the latter in his teens at the time of filming. In the end, some creative on-the-spot thinking enabled everything to work out.
Jack Champion’s on-screen kiss explained

Given the age gap between them and the awkwardness that’s likely to create, the movie found a way to make that kissing scene work. “Obviously, I wasn’t going to kiss Jack, who was 14 or 15, in real life,” Sigourney told The Hollywood Reporter. She says that instead they asked Jack to pick someone Sigourney could kiss, which he did. She says that she imagines that when she wasn’t there, they picked someone for Jack to do the same.
Sigourney acknowledges that the age difference between her and Jack was a legitimate concern. She adds that she’s happy the scene survived. The multiple Academy Award nominee says that when she saw the scene, it felt incredibly genuine. She went on to clarify that outside of that, everything else in the film was the two of them acting together.
One of the stars of Avatar, Zoe Saldana, shared that she felt her kids were ready to see those movies. They’ll have many opportunities to see her not only in the three Avatar movies already released, but also in other ones in the future. A fourth and a fifth Avatar film are scheduled for release in the future.
Avatar: Fire and Ash came out in theatres earlier this month. It has collected over $300 million at the box office.
