Sydney Sweeney is making waves in Hollywood with back-to-back releases. The 28-year-old spilled the beans on what draws her to a project in a recent interview with a reputable media company. The exchange delves deep into Sweeney’s role picking process and her weakness for “juicy” stories.
Sydney Sweeney shares the type of scripts she prefers
Sydney Sweeney recently got candid about how she chooses her scripts and what intrigues her about taking on a role. As revealed in her latest BBC interview, the Euphoria star wants to be part of films that will “impact and hopefully save people’s lives”.
In 2025, she appeared in the psychological thriller The Housemaid and the boxing biopic Christy. Both films address the real and sensitive topic of domestic violence. Describing the theme as “prevalent”, Sweeney shared that she approached the roles with a ton of sensitivity. “Being able to have a film that’s on a more commercial level, talk about a very difficult topic, is important.”
In her latest release, The Housemaid, the actress portrays Millie Calloway. The movie is the adaptation of the 2022 novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. An international bestseller, the book has garnered a large online following, especially among the reading community on TikTok.
Sydney Sweeney says she is a massive fan of the book and claims to love all the characters. “I love complex, juicy, crazy, twisted stories. This is a dream project”, she added, confirming excitement for the project.
Besides Sweeney, the movie also stars Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar as Nina and Andrew Winchester. The duo portrays a wealthy couple who hire Sweeney’s character as a nanny.
While Seyfried and Sweeney were handpicked as the two female leads because of their physical resemblance, the Mean Girls star insists their similarities go beyond surface-level. “There’s a similarity between us that is uncanny, and it’s really fun to work with people [who] are doing life in a similar way, have similar ideals about the job and life.”
The Housemaid was released in the USA on December 19, 2025.
