Gen Alpha slang has officially gone mainstream, and Zoe Saldana admits she arrived late to the trend. While looking back on pop culture moments that caught her attention in 2025, the Oscar-winning actress said one viral phrase still leaves her confused: “6-7.” Saldana admitted that “6-7” isn’t the only term giving her trouble.
Zoe Saldana is determined to get the 6-7 Gen Alpha lingo
Speaking with PEOPLE, Saldana, 47, said the meme has captured her attention in a way she didn’t expect. When asked about her favorite pop culture moment of the year, she didn’t hesitate. “This whole 6-7 thing has been, oh God, an absolute anomaly,” she said. “I am so hyper-focused on this Gen Alpha lingo, and I’m gonna get it.” As a Gen X mom raising three Gen Alpha kids, she has also tried adopting the word “aura.” The slang used to describe someone’s natural cool factor. “But every time I think I’m preserving my aura, that’s when I’m told I lost it,” she joked.
The phrase originates from Skrilla’s song Doot Doot (6 7), which repeatedly chants “6-7” without clearly explaining its meaning. NBA star LaMelo Ball also became loosely linked to the meme. Simply because he stands 6 feet, 7 inches tall, which helped gain popularity. By October 2025, the phrase had grown so widespread that Dictionary.com named “6-7” its Word of the Year.
Internet personality Druski may be helping Saldana get a better grip on internet slang and tap further into her comedic side. The “Emilia Pérez” actress stars alongside Druski and actor Harvey Guillén in a new T-Mobile ad promoting the brand’s 15-minute switch experience, which allows customers to change carriers in just 15 minutes. Saldana told PEOPLE that Druski has been guiding her through improvisation for the humorous spot. “If I lean heavily and solely on the lines, then I leave very little space for improvisation or catching anything that may occur that is not even planned,” she explained. “It’s those moments that are absolutely special, and Druski does it so beautifully.”
