Princess Bride’s Cary Elwes Gives Sad Update After Rob and Michele Reiner’s Murder

Weeks after the murders of Rob and Michele Reiner, Cary Elwes is ready to share his sorrow. The British actor starred in The Princess Bride, which Rob directed, says that, after some time reflecting on and processing the news, he’s found the words to express what Rob and Michele meant to him.

Cary was 24 when The Princess Bride was made, and he says he instantly had tremendous love and admiration for Rob. He called him a person who wore his heart on his sleeve and felt deeply. Cary hasn’t forgotten the advice he gave him when they first worked together.

After being quiet about his longtime friend’s death for weeks, Cary is opening up about what Rob meant to him. In a lengthy and heartfelt Instagram post, Cary says Rob’s “heart was filled with love and compassion.”

Rob used to say to Cary that once a movie is released, it belongs to other people. According to Cary, he also told him, “While you are making it, that’s your time on the planet, so you wanna make it good.” For Cary, those words of wisdom have always stayed with him. He added that his time on The Princess Bride was beyond great. “The movie is about love, loyalty, and sacrifice. Things that Rob held dear,” added Cary.

While Cary spoke highly of Rob, he didn’t forget about Michele’s contributions to the world. He called her a gifted photographer who was incredibly loving and intelligent. He says his heart still aches because of what transpired. Rob and Michele were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood home earlier this month.

In closing, Cary quoted one of his many iconic lines from The Princess Bride, saying, “Sure death cannot stop true love.” However, he adds, “life is pain without you.” The Princess Bride is considered a cult classic, and the song Storybook Love earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
