A massive renovation project seems to be causing tension between the President and his wife. Donald Trump has gushed over the project for the White House ballroom, which he claims will be funded by donations from his wealthy friends.
Melania, on the other hand, isn’t quite so thrilled, it seems, with all of the construction happening. The President says the noise is like music to his ears, but not so much to his wife. Construction on the project is said to be entering a new phase with the architecture firm Shalom Baranes Associates hired on in early December.
Are the White House renovations causing trouble for President Trump and First Lady Melania?
Melania’s annoyance may be something Donald is making light of, but it’s sparked speculation about trouble between the two. “She hears piledrivers in the background all day, all night,” the President said at a news conference. He adds that workers can be heard hammering away until 12 o’clock in the morning. Donald supposedly says he tells his wife sorry but adds that it’s progress.
In October, Melania reportedly had concerns about the project, specifically the East Wing demolition. That’s because that’s where the First Lady’s office is located. She’s been noticeably absent many times in the White House, perhaps because of the ballroom construction. The President has said it will be the “finest ballroom ever built.”
When he was asked last month about Melania’s thoughts on the ballroom, Donald said that she loved her little, tiny office. He was also asked in a past interview if it was true that his wife wasn’t thrilled about the ballroom construction project. He emphasized that she appreciated her old office.
Melania hasn’t publicly raised any concerns about the project but apparently hasn’t been excited about it privately.
