Adam Sandler recently had the audience in stitches while imagining what his life would be like if his acting career had never taken off. While accepting the Chairman’s Award at the Palm Springs International Film Awards, he painted a hilariously over-the-top picture of his normal life and all sorts of absurd scenarios.
Adam Sandler pictures what he would have been if he failed in acting
At 59, Adam Sandler looked back on the one-year experiment that kick-started his acting career. Sandler revealed that when he graduated with his BFA, his dad said he was proud and told me to give it a year. “[He said], ‘See if you get something cooking. If it doesn’t work out after one year, you’ll come work for me.’ My dad was an electrical contractor. I didn’t know very much about electricity or contracting.” (via Complex)
From there, Sandler spun a hilarious picture of a life spent wiring fuse boxes instead of strutting down red carpets. He joked that he’d still be married to his wife Jackie, but living in a simpler house with maybe 10 fewer bathrooms and fewer statues of himself. One perk, he added, might be that he’d “probably know how to charge my own phone.”
Sandler further joked that people might still stop him to ask for photos, not for fame, but because nobody had seen someone with scoliosis like his. He even pulled his longtime buddy Rob Schneider into the fantasy, imagining him helping with every electrical project Sandler might have taken on.
Adam Sandler also joked that he probably wouldn’t have needed a Hawaii vacation. He would just go to the pond up the street by the nuclear power plant. On the bright side, he added, it would make his parts glow in the dark. Beyond the laughs, Sandler shared how thankful he was for his career. “I’ve been acting for a very long time. I can’t thank you all enough for letting me have this career that I’ve been lucky enough to have,” he said.
