Elon Musk recently took to social media to share a photo of himself having dinner with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Mar-a-Lago. He accompanied the post with a brief caption about the dinner, tagging the couple and expressing his enthusiasm for the new year. The unexpected outing comes as a surprise amid the ongoing feud between Trump and Musk, who previously clashed over a major tax and domestic policy bill.
Elon Musk dines with Donald Trump and his wife
Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an image of him dining with Trump and his wife, Melania, at Mar-a-Lago. In the image shared, the duo appears to be having a discussion over food and drinks. His caption read, “Had a lovely dinner last night with @POTUS and @FLOTUS. 2026 is going to be amazing!”
The outing surprised many, as Trump and Musk’s relationship had soured in the past year due to disagreements surrounding the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.” Earlier in a conversation with CBS News, Musk expressed his disappointment over Trump’s signature bill.
He said, “I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.” In response to Musk’s remarks, Trump revealed that he is “disappointed” by the Tesla owner, too.
Since then, the duo has engaged in several heated exchanges on social media, including Musk posting on X about Trump’s alleged involvement in the Epstein files; the post was later deleted by the Tesla CEO. In July 2025, Musk also announced that he was forming a new political party in response to Trump’s policy bill.
He wrote, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
In the later months, the duo appeared to make efforts to repair their relationship. They were seen together at Charlie Kirk’s memorial in September. Moreover, Musk made a positive social media remark about Trump following the president’s address at the US-Saudi Investment Forum on the bill in November 2025.
