For any Chiefs fans concerned that the end is nigh for Travis Kelce, recent comments by his teammates offer little comfort. After ending the season on a 14-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on January 4th, post-game statements seemed to hint at a looming retirement.
“Man, thank you,” quarterback Chris Oladokun told Travis in a locker room with The Kansas City Star. Linebacker Cole Christiansen expressed a similar sentiment, telling Travis, “Whatever happens, it’s been an honor playing with you.”
Could Travis Kelce retire in 2026?
In 2026, Travis will turn 37 years old, putting him well past what the sport would define as his “prime”. According to the tight end himself, he doesn’t have an exact timeline for his future in mind.
“Who knows?” Travis told the Kansas City Star. “Either (a decision) hits me quick, or I gotta take some time.”
The podcaster and fiancé of Taylor Swift was frank about his waning stamina, however.
“Last year was a little bit easier,” the 36-year-old added. “I think I knew right away I wanted to give this (season) a shot. I don’t know. We’ll see.”
It is strange to think of the record-breaker — born in the same year as Taylor — as being too old, but Travis has plenty of other ventures. Late last year, it was revealed that Travis was a key investor in a new theme park from Six Flags. The tight end also cofounded 1857 Prime, a Kansas City Steakhouse, with teammate Patrick Mahomes.
Perhaps his greatest venture, however, is New Heights, the podcast he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. The podcast was sold to Amazon’s podcast network, Wondery, for an estimated $100 million in 2024.
