Burlesque may have been a fun, lighthearted movie, but the vibes on set apparently didn’t match. Cher recently opened up about the drama behind the scenes, thanks to “you know who.” Her former co-star Kristen Bell also shared her take on the alleged bad atmosphere, and the “hard shoot.”
Burlesque wasn’t one of Cher’s best experiences
Cher sat down for a chat on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. Dax’s wife and Cher’s Burlesque co-star Kristen joined them for the January 5 episode.
During the two-hour discussion, which also saw Cher lay into Dax, the topic turned to the 2010 movie. The singer revealed that it hadn’t exactly been all light and love on set. She said: “It could have been a really good fun movie except for you-know-who. Except for both of them.”
Kristen then added: “It was a hard shoot. It was hard.”
Dax, who was dating Kristen at the time, explained: “What I think I can say, not being involved with it, was there was a romantic relationship happening for people that were very high above.” Cher agreed.
Dax then added: “And that was playing out on set quite frequently and dramatically and uniquely to anyone that’s been in show business.”
While no names were mentioned during the chat, a 2010 report from The Hollywood Reporter could offer a clue. A source told the publication that couple Steven Antin and Clint Culpepper, who worked together on the movie, had “jaw-dropping” arguments on set.
Kristin revealed that her way of getting through the “chaotic situations” was to “hold hands with someone in the corner and just laugh at everything.” She revealed co-star Stanley Tucci was one such beacon of support, to which Cher replied: “I love Stanley.”
Kristen and Dax have faced their own relationship-related drama recently following a controversial Instagram post.
