Donald Trump Has a New, Unflattering Nickname for JD Vance — Source

Donald Trump is allegedly irritated with JD Vance and has given him a new royal nickname. According to several insiders, the president is apparently none too pleased with the vice president’s early preparations for his presidential campaign run in 2028. Trump has famously mused that he could run for a third term, while JD Vance is waiting in the wings to be one of his potential successors.

Trump reportedly annoyed by JD Vance’s presidential ambitions

Donald Trump has allegedly been calling JD Vance “Prince William,” as noted by various sources speaking with entertainment reporter Rob Shuter on his Naughty But Nice Substack.

In most contexts, being compared to the UK royal who is next in line for the throne after King Charles would be flattering. A YouGov poll in 2025 reveals that William, Prince of Wales, has a favorable popularity rating of 62% and an astonishing fame rating of 99%. However, insiders say that the “Prince William” nickname for the vice president is “no compliment.”

One insider says that “JD should be very careful” as he assembles his campaign team for 2028 while Trump is only one year into his second term. “If Donald feels even slightly pushed aside, he will attack,” the source said. “Trump doesn’t tolerate heirs — real or imagined.”

Allegedly, Trump is sensitive to anyone attempting to take the spotlight away from him and that includes JD Vance. One source warned, “Donald knows exactly what happens when challengers start gaining traction. He’s seen this movie before — and he always strikes first.”

Another insider agreed that Trump’s team is “watching every move” that the vice president makes and that “in Trump world, ambition equals betrayal.” As one source put it, “JD may think he’s planning a campaign. But Trump thinks he’s meeting a rival to the throne.”

On January 5, JD Vance responded to an alleged attempted break-in at his home in Ohio, with the suspect being taken into custody by the Cincinnati Police Department.
