Lenny Dykstra hasn’t got off to a good start in 2026. The former baseball star is reportedly facing drug charges after being pulled over by cops on New Year’s Day. The Mets star has struggled with legal and financial troubles since he retired from baseball in the 1990s.
Lenny Dykstra had a traffic stop on New Year’s Day

Pennsylvania State Police suspect Lenny of having either crack or meth. The alleged discovery was made during a traffic stop, reports TMZ. Lenny was a passenger in the car, and apparently opened the glove box to get his identification, only to reveal the dodgy-looking substance.
According to police, the officer noticed a “container holding suspected crack-cocaine/methamphetamine and a glass smoking device containing suspected drug residue.”
Lenny has since been charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, according to local news. His attorney insists the baseball star had nothing to do with it.
He told TMZ Sports: “We firmly assert that the alleged narcotics did not belong to Lenny, who is currently recovering from a serious stroke. Lenny was not knowingly in possession of or under the influence of any narcotics on his person and was not taken into custody at the scene.”
He added: “The driver was arrested and taken into custody at the scene and accused of 17 counts, including being under the influence. Not Lenny. Attorney Tom Mincer and our team remain steadfast in our commitment to absolving Lenny of all possession charges.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Lenny has found himself in trouble with the law. Back in March 2012 he was sentenced to three years in prison for grand theft auto and providing false financial statements. Later that year, he received a six-month prison term for fraud and money laundering.
Lenny isn’t the only one to have rung in the new year facing drug-related charges…
