Although AI may be putting jobs in other industries out of work, it’s not something Julia Roberts is worried about. The Academy Award winner says she doesn’t use that technology, nor does she think it’ll work in her industry.
Despite her belief that acting jobs are safe, she admits there was a time when she was a little concerned. During COVID, she wasn’t sure that she and the Hollywood industry would never get back to work. When it comes to AI, though, she says, “it’s too heartbreaking for me to believe it could happen.”
Julia Roberts talks AI and the future of the movie theater

While she’s fascinated by what AI can do for medicine, Julia doesn’t use it herself. She calls it a slippery slope. In an interview with Deadline, Julia explains why she believes AI won’t replace real-life actors. She says that acting is “someone’s heart and soul, and those are not manufacturable.”
Her thoughts are in line with what Notting Hill director Richard Curtis previously said that, for him, AI will never replace an actor, screenwriter, or any other creative in filmmaking. Julia, though, acknowledges that at the end of the day, it’s all about the dollars and cents.
While Julia is known for her acclaimed performances in movies like Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich, she’s evidently a woman of many talents. In October, we discovered on Watch What Happens Live that she can do impressions. Notably, she did an impressive portrayal of Sutton Stracke from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
On Sunday, Julia will be up for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama in After the Hunt. In the movie, Julia portrays a respected Yale professor.
