Kelly Ripa evidently wasn’t fully prepared for a return from the holiday break. The host of Live! Kelly and Mark admitted on her show Monday that she was still a little “disoriented.” During the early portion of the first episode of 2026.
She and her husband, and co-host Mark Consuelos, went away on vacation while their show was on a break. Monday saw another of the many unforeseen moments that Kelly has faced on the show before.
Kelly Ripa realized her makeup didn’t “look right” but kept going
Winging it seems to be a trademark that Kelly has become accustomed to on the air. During the first episode of the year, the former soap opera star admitted on Monday’s show that she wasn’t fully ready when the director called action. She said that “something doesn’t look right, but I sort of keep going.”
While Mark said she looked great, Kelly told the audience that if she looked different, it was because she was putting contour all over her face. Kelly assumed people would think she looked tan because of all her contour.
It is far from the first time Kelly has seemingly gone off script to be very transparent with the audience. During a taping in December, she admitted to being “sort of half-dressed” as the show was live. To her credit, though she always seems to play it off coolly, and the show still has a nice flow to it.
Decades on the show and her previous life as an actress have evidently taught her to roll with the punches and improvise when needed. In a prior episode, Kelly could even be heard uttering profanity over Christmas frustration.
Since becoming her co-host, though, she has had the love and support of her husband, Mark, who always has a kind word for her on air. In 2024, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host for the seventh time.
