A deal has been reached in Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s divorce. It was revealed last year that the couple were breaking up. The Australian actress stated in September that irreconcilable differences was the reason.
For a couple that had been together as long as they had, their divorce was resolved relatively quickly. The country star and the Oscar winner came to an understanding on Tuesday. The Moulin Rouge actress was reportedly trying to keep things together with Keith over the summer but ultimately couldn’t make it work. Keith and Nicole have two daughters together.
After 19 years of marriage, Nicole and Keith are divorced
Nicole Kidman is officially divorced for a second time. According to documents obtained by People, Nicole’s home will serve as the primary residence for their daughters under the agreement. They will spend every other weekend with their father, according to the settlement. That means they’ll be with Keith for 59 days out of the year. Nicole will have the girls the rest of the time.
The couple waived their rights to child and spousal support as part of the deal, meaning neither will receive alimony, with each responsible for their own legal fees and expenses.
While it was known for a while that their 19-year marriage was in danger of ending, reports in October suggested Nicole would get back together with the country star in a heartbeat if possible. That door, however, is now officially closed for the time being.
As tempting as it might be, neither Keith nor Nicole is allowed to speak ill of the other or the family of the other’s parents, according to the deal. The agreement states that they will continue encouraging each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.
For Keith, this is his first divorce, with the couple marrying in 2006. Nicole was previously married to Tom Cruise, with their divorce finalized in 2001.
