Nick Reiner’s mental well-being in prison may be improving. At least that’s what the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he is, seems to think.

The son of late Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner is on trial for murder in the stabbing deaths of his dad and mother, Michele. The screenwriter is in solitary confinement and must wear a prison-issued yellow shirt and blue pants. Given the viciousness of his alleged crime and his history of mental illness, he had been on suicide watch for a while behind bars.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department appears to be satisfied with how Nick is adjusting to prison life. A source close to them told People exclusively that the Being Charlie writer is no longer on suicide watch. He had been required before to wear a suicide prevention smock since being admitted to jail in mid-December.

Nick will remain in the High Observation Housing (HOH) unless a judge or a court hearing determines otherwise. He’ll be under close watch there, alone. Nick is currently facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths.

Days after their deaths, Nick was said to be a little dazed while behind bars. There’s speculation that this may be because of what happened or due to his medication. He had been treated multiple times for Schizophrenia, a widely misunderstood mental illness. The disease itself is characterized by symptoms of psychosis.

While living with his parents, Nick’s records indicate police had previously responded to welfare-check calls for him in 2019. He has retained Alan Jackson as his attorney. Alan is famous for getting Karen Read acquitted of murder following the death of her boyfriend in Massachusetts in 2022.

Nick is scheduled for arraignment on January 7.
