Cynthia Erivo is perhaps one of the most talked-about nominees of the upcoming 2026 Golden Globe Awards. However, she reportedly won’t be walking the red carpet this year. Despite earning another major nomination for her work in “Wicked,” the actor is expected to miss the ceremony due to professional commitments overseas.
Cynthia Erivo will miss Golden Globes 2026 due to work schedule, per report
According to Variety, Cynthia Erivo is expected to miss the 83rd annual Golden Globe Awards due to her work schedule in London. The outlet reports that Erivo is “currently deep into production” for a West End stage adaptation of “Dracula.”
The production, which begins previews on February 4, is an ambitious one-woman performance. In it, Erivo is said to play 23 different characters, including the infamous vampire himself. Variety’s sources say production scheduling made it impossible for producers to free her for an overseas awards appearance.
The reported absence comes during a major moment in Erivo’s career. She received a Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy nomination for her performance as Elphaba in “Wicked: For Good.” It marks her fifth Golden Globe nomination overall.
Speaking previously to Variety when nominations were announced, Erivo reflected on the significance of the moment. “I hope there are many more to come, not just for me, but for other Black women,” Erivo said. “I hope it’s just the beginning.” At the time, she shared that she was already in London preparing for “Dracula.”
The “Wicked” sequel itself is having a strong awards-season showing. The film reportedly picked up five nominations, including Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, following a global box office run exceeding $500 million. Co-star Ariana Grande is also nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
While Erivo’s absence from the Golden Globes may disappoint fans hoping to see her celebrate in person, it shows her continued commitment to the stage. In an interview with Wonderland Magazine, she has described the “Dracula” role as both terrifying and exhilarating. “I don’t know, is this sadistic of me — but I’m really excited about it as well,” Erivo shared. “It’s absolutely nonsensical and insane.”
