The Foo Fighters will be short a man for the early portion of their upcoming tour. Guitarist Pat Smear will be out of commission for an undisclosed amount of time, following a freak accident at the beginning of 2026.
Gardening is the reason Pat will be missing in action as the band prepares for its Take Cover tour. The band called his injury online one of many “bizarre gardening accidents,” involving musicians. The 66-year-old hurt his foot in a gardening accident on par with what appears to be a dangerous hobby for rockstars. In the 1984 mockumentary movie Spinal Tap, the group’s drummer, John Pepys, is said to have died while gardening.
Foo Fighters’ Pat Smear broke multiple bones
The Foo Fighters tour is just around the corner, but the group must soldier on without Pat for now. On the band’s Instagram page, they say Pat smashed his left foot while gardening. He is said to have suffered multiple broken bones as a result. They wish him well but say they want him fully healed as soon as possible. The hilarious photo shows Pat giving the middle finger while being wheeled away in his garden.
While Pat is healing, the band has called up Jason Falkner to take his place. Jason has previously played guitar for Beck and St. Vincent. The first show on their tour takes place in Guanajuato, Mexico, on Saturday. Four days later, the band will play a benefit concert in Los Angeles on the same day that their lead vocalist, Dave Grohl, celebrates his 57th birthday. In 2015 Dave was seen in photos partying with the Vanderpump Rules cast.
This will be the 13th time the band has gone on the road, with their previous tour, Everything or Nothing at All, debuting in 2024. Over their illustrious time together, the Foo Fighters have claimed over a dozen Grammy Award wins. In 2022, Medicine at Midnight was named the Best Rock Album at the Grammys.
Their upcoming tour concludes in late September at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
