Ethan Hawke is sharing one of his biggest regrets about Gwyneth Paltrow. The pair who co-starred in Great Expectations in the late 90s shared a kiss during the movie.
They apparently locked lips when the camera wasn’t rolling as well, though it wasn’t in the manner Ethan would have hoped for. The movie they did was adapted from a Charles Dickens novel and made into a 1998 film, with Robert De Niro in a supporting role.
Ethan wanted to kiss Gwyneth, but not in a game of Truth or Dare
Ethan may have gotten his wish to kiss Gwyneth off camera, but it’s not one he remembers fondly. Speaking on Today with Jenna & Friends on Wednesday, the actor looked back on his lengthy career in Hollywood. In the interview, he shared that he kissed Gwyneth in a game of truth or dare. Ethan says, “I wanted to kiss her, but not in a game.”
Gwyneth and Ethan discussed their first kiss together during another interview last year. Ethan said there was a six-month period where the pair would run into each other in various areas. The truth-or-dare kiss they shared happened at Ethan’s apartment.
Ethan has expressed disappointment that neither he nor Gwyneth received any award nominations for their work on Great Expectations. He called the water fountain kissing scene in that movie iconic. While the two kissed in the movie, Gwyneth admitted to declining sex scenes in the film. Gwyneth has admitted to being worried about her grandfather and father seeing her on screen in those intimate ways. She says these days she wouldn’t care, but back then she had concerns.
The celebrities reportedly dated briefly in the 1990s and were allegedly introduced through mutual friends. They were apparently not an item during the filming of Great Expectations. The movie grossed over $50 million at the box office.
