Anthony Joshua Breaks Silence After Fatal Crash That Killed Friends

Anthony Joshua is opening up about two of his late friends. The former heavyweight boxing champion was involved in a car crash in Nigeria weeks ago, which claimed the lives of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and conditioning coach Sina Ghami.

On social media, Anthony expressed his gratitude for the love and support others have shown him during this difficult time. He also shared just how special the two men were to him. Anthony was a passenger when the Lexus crashed in December and was fortunate to suffer only non-life-threatening injuries as a result.

Latif and Sina were more than just valuable members of Anthony’s team. On his Instagram page, the boxer said, “I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men.”

While he acknowledges how tough a loss this is for him, he adds that it’s even tougher for their parents. He adds that he believes God knows their hearts, ending with “May God have mercy on my brothers.”

The two men lost their lives when the car they were in collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria on December 29. The driver of the Lexus, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode has reportedly been charged with dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Anthony attended the memorial service for his two deceased friends earlier this week. The boxer was treated for his wounds following the crash at the Duchess International Hospital. There’s speculation that he may retire following this incident from boxing. Shortly before the crash, Anthony defeated Jake Paul in a match he said was not his finest.

In 2012, Anthony won the gold medal in the super-heavyweight boxing division. His victorious fight against Wladimir Klitschko in 2017 was named The Ring magazine’s Fight of the Year.
