Hilary Duff spoke about doing a “friend cleanse” months before Ashley Tisdale wrote an article about feeling excluded from her “toxic” group of mom friends in her California neighborhood.
To recap, in a personal essay published just days ago, Ashley wrote about a group of celebrity mom friends that she was initially close to. The High School Musical star talked of feeling supported within this community, but said as time went on, she felt left out. Ultimately, Ashley parted ways with the group, who she described as “too high school” for her.
Was Ashley cut from Hilary’s group of friends?

Comments made by Hilary just two months before Ashley’s bombshell essay in The Cut, have resurfaced, adding further speculation about whether she’s part of the “toxic” mom group in question.
Although Ashley didn’t directly name any of her former friends, there’s plenty of rumors. Hilary, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor are among some of the celebrity moms thought to be in the group. However, Ashley’s rep denied that claim in a statement to TMZ. But, of course, that hasn’t stopped fans whispering.
In their digging, fans have come across a November 2025 episode of Therapuss. In it, Hilary opened up about friendships, and said the end of one can be “worse” than a romantic split. Regardless, she said sometimes “you have to friend cleanse.”
“It’s OK to edit,” she went on. “But you feel like a bad person when you’re doing it.”
“I’ve had to do it a few times,” she added of breaking up with a friend. “I just always want my side of the street to be clean. You know what I mean?”
The guessing game continues…
