King Charles is making a calculated move to steer clear of his youngest son for the time being. Prince Harry is set to return to the UK later this month for his trial against the publisher of The Daily Mail on High Court privacy claims. The Duke of Sussex likely won’t be in his home country for too long due to multiple commitments.
The King will be in Scotland during his son’s return and won’t likely visit him in the US anytime soon for fear of receiving more bad press.
King Charles is said to be “reclaiming authority” after his Prince Harry reunion in 2025

The King dealt with his share of bad publicity at the end of 2025. He apparently wants to avoid it in 2026. A source told Tom Sykes of The Royalist that Charles “has no wish to be linked to any court proceedings.” The King’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, already brought him plenty of public shame due to his past affiliation with disgraced sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Charles evicted his brother from the Royal Lodge over that scandal, while also stripping him of his title as Prince. Insiders, though, suggest he is secretly protecting him from suffering further embarrassment.
The King and Harry reportedly reconciled last year when the latter visited him. Charles apparently doesn’t want to show any weakness while in power by being too close to his son’s upcoming case. Tom says that this move “could allow Charles to reclaim a measure of authority.”
Distancing himself from the Prince may put him back in a position of power. It may also align him more closely with his eldest son and successor to the throne, Prince William. The King’s two sons have been estranged for years, with Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare seemingly driving a wedge between the brothers. William was apparently none too pleased upon hearing that his dad and Harry had met last fall.
