Award shows have long been used as platforms to speak for global causes or to cover big news stories. That was the case on Sunday at the Golden Globes. Numerous celebrities took the opportunity to discuss the Renee Good tragedy from last week.
The mother of three got shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minnesota last week. The Donald Trump administration is characterizing the prize-winning poet as a domestic terrorist. The government had been launching large raids around the area. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul area reportedly contains the largest Somalian population in the US.
Wanda Sykes and Mark Ruffalo were among those wearing a “Be Good” pin

Not only were plenty of celebrities speaking up against Renee’s death, but there’s a lot of unity, it seems, in Hollywood on that front. Among the biggest advocates on Sunday were Wanda Sykes and Mark Ruffalo. They wore pins in support of Renee that read “Be Good.” “I know people are out marching and all today, and we need to speak up,” said Wanda on the red carpet Sunday.
Wanda further said the pins were for the slain mother. Additionally, she believes that they needed to be out there to shut the rogue government down. The campaign aims to honor Renee and Keith Porter while also reminding us of what it means to be good to one another amid such horror. Reports indicate Keith got shot on New Year’s Eve by an ICE agent.
Last week, Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings said getting rid of ICE doesn’t go far enough, saying the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) should go. The organizations involved in this movement are Marmot, Move On, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Working Families. Wanda, Mark, and Jean Smart were among the celebrities wearing Be Good pins on Sunday.
