Donald Trump’s Latest Odd Comments Come Amid Air Force One Turbulence

Trump jokes about turbulence aboard Air Force One. While answering questions from a reporter, Trump appeared to look around for something to hold on to, saying “it’s going to get rough”. He joked with reporters; “I think you did this to me. You’ve put me in a position where there’s absolutely nothing to grab”. trump airforceone turbulence

The interruption came as Trump was asked about meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. Rather than answering, he focused on the turbulence and looked around the cabin.

“I’m looking for something to grab. It’s going to get rough and I don’t seem to be in a great… You did this to me. You put me in a position where there is absolutely nothing to grab,” Trump said as the plane continued to jolt.

He then followed it up with a joke, pointing to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as laughter broke out nearby.

“So, I’m looking for something to grab and it is not gonna be Karoline,” Trump added.

The exchange quickly went viral for how abruptly the conversation derailed midair. The question itself followed renewed attention on Venezuela after the U.S. military’s capture of Nicolás Maduro and speculation about future leadership.

Trump hinted on Fox News on January 8 that Machado might visit Washington. He suggested the two could meet.

“Well, I understand she’s coming in next week sometime, and I look forward to saying hello to her,” he said.

Since then, he told reporters last week it would “be very tough for [Machado] to be the leader, because she doesn’t have the support within or the respect within the country.”

Machado later appeared on Fox News and discussed Trump’s role in recent events, to which he responded positively when asked.

“I’ve heard that she wants to do that. That’d be a great honor,” he said.
