She may not have come away with any trophies on the night, but she could very well have been the star of Sunday’s Golden Globes. Wanda Sykes not only made a statement with what she wore but also poked fun at a fellow comedian.
The actress and comedian took aim at Bill Maher while onstage, suggesting the political comedian should give audiences a little less than he does. Wanda was presenting the Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on TV.

Wanda Sykes knows a thing or two about throwing shade. Bill does as well so perhaps she felt that if anyone could take it, it’s him. After talking about the love she had for the nominees on stage, Wanda focused on the political comedian. “Bill Maher, you give us so much, but I would love a little less,” said Wanda. As the audience chuckled, she paused before adding, “Just … try less.”
For his part, Bill seemed a little perplexed and didn’t seem to take the joke into stride or understand it. The winner in that category was Ricky Gervais, who wasn’t on hand to accept the award. Bill was not the only celebrity targeted that evening. Host Nikki Glaser roasted Leonardo DiCaprio over having younger girlfriends.
Wanda didn’t just make headlines with her joke at Bill, but also for her political statement. The Emmy Award winner wore a solidarity pin that read Be Good. The pin was worn by several celebrities at the show on Sunday. It was done following the controversial killing of Renee Good last week by ICE agents in Minnesota.
Wanda emphasized the importance of speaking up after incidents like this.
