Even highly successful boy band members are not immune to fear. Louis Tomlinson is opening up about one of the biggest he’s had since becoming a household name.
Around 2015, One Direction was nearing its end, with its members soon to go their separate ways. When that moment finally came Louis admits it was “really f*cking scary.”
The band had been formed in 2010 and achieved almost instant fame. During the years together, the group sold over $70 million albums worldwide, making them one of the bestselling boy bands of all time. The group split up in the summer of 2015, with Zayn Malik the first to depart.

Even with his ties to One Direction, Louis wasn’t convinced he’d remain famous after the band broke up. In a recent interview with Billboard, he said that he thought “there might be one or two people from a band that prosper.” The one he felt would be a superstar on his own was singer Harry Styles.
He says he had no doubts Harry would prosper without the group, but said he was afraid he’d become a has-been when the band separated at his age of 24. Louis believed former bandmate Niall Horan would also be successful.
The band lost one of its members in 2024 when Liam Payne died in Buenos Aires after falling from his hotel balcony. Liam was in Argentina to see one of Niall’s shows. Although the group is still saddened by the loss, Louis says the surviving One Direction members are closer than ever. However, he feels that may change given the demands of their schedules.
Louis is preparing for the release of his third solo album, entitled How Did I Get Here. The first single from that album, Lemonade, came out in September 2025. He’ll be going on a world tour to promote the album beginning in March. The album itself comes out on January 23.
