Donald Trump weighed in following the death of Dilbert creator Scott Adams, offering a tribute that quickly drew attention. The president’s message blended praise for Adams with a reflection on their personal connection, prompting discussion over the focus of his remarks.
Donald Trump pays tribute to Scott Adams
President Donald Trump paid tribute to Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic strip, following Adams’ death from metastatic prostate cancer at age 68. “Sadly, the Great Influencer, Scott Adams, has passed away,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He was a fantastic guy, who liked and respected me when it wasn’t fashionable to do so.” Trump added, “He bravely fought a long battle against a terrible disease. My condolences go out to his family, and all of his many friends and listeners.” Trump wrote, “He will be truly missed. God bless you, Scott!”
Scott Adams’ ex-wife, Shelly Miles, announced his death during a Real Coffee with Scott Adams livestream. She said he died in hospice care seven months after he revealed his diagnosis. In December, Adams stated he had “essentially zero” chance of recovery and disclosed that he was paralyzed from the waist down.
In November, Adams publicly asked Trump for help obtaining the cancer drug Pluvicto. Trump responded on social media with “I’m on it,” though no further update followed. Adams had long supported Trump and frequently voiced his views on politics and media through his podcast and livestreams.
Many publications dropped Dilbert, which once ran in 2,000 newspapers across 65 countries, after Adams made racially controversial remarks in 2023, advising white people to “get the f— away” from Black people. He later told Fox News that “wokeness” caused the cancellations.
Trump’s tribute came weeks after a controversial post about Rob Reiner’s death, in which Trump wrote that Reiner suffered from “a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” The post drew widespread backlash. Joe Rogan stated, “The Rob Reiner thing is not funny. There’s no justification for what [Trump] did that makes any sense in a compassionate society.”
