Explaining a hit TV show to his Turkish mom proved to be incredibly difficult for Hasan Piker. The streamer and political commentator shared the moment online on a recent show.
Hasan didn’t appear to know much about Heated Rivalry himself but knew enough to talk to his parents about it. “I had a Heated Rivalry moment,” he shared. Hasan said his mother had no idea about the show. His dad tried telling it to her in Turkish, which seemed to cause more confusion than anything, but plenty of laughter. The series follows two hockey players who have a secret romance off the ice.
Hasan Piker’s experience was “not in a gay way”
The show captured the attention of many people, as families from various cultures discussed it. Hasan admits talking about it with his parents, calling it his Heated Rivalry moment, but “not in a gay way.” On The Austin Show, Hasan retold his dad’s explanation to his mom about the show in Turkish.
He says that he and his parents wound up watching an episode together. It didn’t last long, though, with Hasan saying that his dad had seen enough three frames into viewing it. Hasan admitted, “I didn’t realize it’s going to be that gay.” He went on to say that afterwards, he saw snippets of the show, and there were guys having … intimate moments with their mouths.
The show premiered on Crave last November, with HBO Max acquiring the US and Australian rights shortly afterwards. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the two stars of the show, Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, would be getting exciting new roles.
Hasan has regularly spoken on his stream about political issues, including the Gaza War, criticizing the Israeli government on that front, while advocating for Palestinians. Hasan began streaming on Twitch in 2018 while working at The Young Turks.
Heated Rivalry will come out with a second season at some point in 2026.
