Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey are reuniting. The Wicked stars are collaborating on a critically acclaimed musical which has been on Broadway twice before.
There had been speculation that the two might work together sooner rather than later after Wicked: For Good came out in theatres last November. Like the original film, the Wicked sequel has been a massive box-office success, grossing over $500 million. The new project featuring the two is sure to generate plenty of buzz.
Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey have joined the West End revival of Sunday in the Park With George
The speculation is over; Ariana and Jonathan will star opposite each other once again. The two confirmed the rumors on Instagram on Wednesday that they’ll be featuring in a West End Revival of Sunday in the Park with George. In the confirmation post, Jonathan and Ariana posed in front of A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, which inspired the musical. That painting is displayed in The Art Institute of Chicago.
This news comes more than 15 years after Ariana made her Broadway debut in the show 13 in 2008. In an interview conversation with Nicole Kidman last November, the Grammy Award winner discussed her love for the theatre. She has called her Broadway experience the most incredible of her life.
Jonathan is no stranger to the theatre, having performed many plays and musicals live, most recently Richard II at the Bridge Theatre in London. He also portrayed Jamie in the stage production of Company. The lyrics and music of that show were written by Stephen Sondheim, the same person who wrote the original music to Sunday in the Park with George.
You can expect extra security for the stars when this show is officially ready to begin. Ariana was said to be suffering PTSD spirals after being rushed by a fan in Singapore. Ariana has spoken openly about her struggles, noting that a terrorist attack in Manchester following one of her shows in 2017 still leaves her troubled.
