And just like that, Chris Noth has backtracked on the shade he threw at his former Sex and the City co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker. Earlier this month, Sarah was honored with the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett Award, but Chris was accused of dissing his on-screen love interest in response.
Chris Noth says he was being “slightly sarcastic” about SJP
Sharing a gym photo on Instagram this week, Chris wrote in the caption: “F*CK new years – LETS GO!”
“You mean f*ck SJP & her award right? Lol,” a fan commented, making reference to Sarah’s honorary award. To that, Chris replied with a simple but seemingly loaded, “Right.”
Unsurprisingly, SATC fans caught wind of the apparent shade thrown by Chris and hopped to the comments in Sarah’s defence. “What did SJP do?” one person commented. “Err, Chris, it was HER show, about HER, not you.”
Now, just days on from the drama, Chris has spoken out. “My off-the-cuff, slightly sarcastic response to a comment on the internet seems to have caused a tempest in a teapot,” he said in a new Instagram post. “It is not news. It is not worth all this discussion,” Chris added of the fallout since his comment.
He went on: “It is a waste of time in a world where there are more important things to worry about.
Sarah hasn’t publicly commented on the ordeal, but has notably kept her distance since multiple allegations of sexual assault were filed against Chris four years ago. The accusations also resulted in Chris being cut from additional And Just Like That episodes.
Although his character, Mr. Big, dies in the season one premiere, Chris was due to make a flashback appearance. He and Sarah had already filmed this scene, but it did not make it to air.
In response to the allegations, a representative for Chris at the time said that these were “a complete fabrication.” The spokesperson added that Chris “has and would never cross that line.” Chris has not been investigated or charged since the claims came to light.
