A$AP Rocky recently revealed that his mom, Renee Black, shipped him with his now-partner, Rihanna, way before their relationship. The “Praise the Lord” rapper made a guest appearance in a new episode of The New York Times’ “Popcast.” The episode debuted on Thursday, January 15. During the episode, the rapper disclosed that his mother wanted him to be with none other than the “Stay” singer even when the two artists were just friends.
A$AP Rocky’s mom thought Rihanna was ‘real’ and rooted for them
A$AP Rocky shared that his mom, Renee Black, rooted for his romantic relationship with Rihanna as she thought that the “Work” singer was “real.” The “Sundress” rapper recently made an appearance as a guest on The New York Times’ “Popcast.” During the episode, he revealed how finding a partner like the “Umbrella” singer changed his life. The rapper shared that his mother had desired to see him in a romantic relationship with Rihanna even when they were just friends.
A$AP Rocky expressed, “My mother used to say s**t like, ‘I know you like this girl that you [are] with right now.'” The rapper continued what his mother said, “‘I ain’t gon’ say no names — but I want you with RiRi.'” He further explained, “It’s like, ‘Ma, why you keep saying that? That girl don’t even want me like that.'” The rapper then emphasized, “Mothers know best.”
In the meantime, in the new “Popcast” episode, A$AP Rocky further said, “I’m thankful that [Rihanna] was put in my life at that time.” The rapper continued, “Because any time prior to that, I don’t think I was ready for something like that.”
He then added, “I don’t think she was either.” During the episode, the rapper also disclosed that Rihanna was always his “boo.” He explained, “We were on the same page. Born the same year. My dad is from her country.” “When I go back, I get to see both sides of my family,” he added.
