As rumors about Travis Kelce’s retirement continue to make the rounds, retired NFL quarterback Eli Manning has provided some seasoned advice. Manning suggests the Chiefs’ star tight end has a wealth of opportunities waiting for him beyond the gridiron.
Eli Manning comments on Travis Kelce’s retirement
Eli Manning spoke to People about the speculation surrounding Travis Kelce and a possible retirement. Manning stressed that the choice is deeply personal. He said it depends on Kelce’s willingness to handle the physical demands that intensify with age.
“That’s his decision, that only he can make. And only he knows what his desire and commitment towards it is,” Manning told the outlet. Moreover, he explained that veteran players cannot ease off without consequences. He added, “You gotta work twice as hard to get half the results — the injuries, the buildup, you’re getting slower, the fast-twitch motions.”
Manning said the next few weeks or months will likely bring clarity for Kelce. According to the two-time Super Bowl champion, the important question is whether Kelce feels eager to return to the grind of training or ready to embrace something new. “He’s got other opportunities, he’s got other things that he can stay busy with,” Manning said.
Manning pointed out that these off-field opportunities allow Kelce to stay connected to the sport without the physical toll. He noted that such roles can keep a former player involved in football, “not getting hit” and without meeting the daily requirements needed to perform at an elite level.
Travis Kelce’s possible ventures after speculated retirement are already well established. He co-hosts the New Heights podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce. Also owns 1587 Prime Steakhouse in Kansas City alongside Patrick Mahomes and maintains multiple brand investments and endorsement deals.
However, Kelce has not announced a final decision regarding his future in the NFL.
