Chris Appleton on Lukas Gage Divorce: ‘Love Isn’t Enough’

It takes more than love to keep a marriage afloat, that’s something Chris Appleton believes. The renowned hairstylist is sharing plenty of details about his personal life in a new book.

Among the topics he touches on are his marriage to Lukas Gage. Chris and Lukas went public with their romantic relationship in 2023 but ultimately divorced the following year. Chris says that he learned a valuable lesson from that breakup, which he carries with him to this day. “I realize love isn’t enough,” he said. Chris calls his time with the Wireless actor a journey of discovery, among other things.

Chris hopes his story inspires others to keep their heads up. The stylist who’s worked with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Martha Stewart discussed his autobiography; Your Roots Don’t Define You. In an interview with People, he talks about dealing with bullying growing up. He also touches on his divorce and various other dark moments in his life.

He says that, in every situation in his life, his message afterwards is to “learn from it and evolve and grow.” Chris says that he’s in a good place now and has taken accountability when needed. While admitting you never delete bad moments that’ve happened to you, his message is to move on from them.

According to Chris, it’s a lot of work for one person to change. He adds that it’s not his job to ensure that happens to someone else. Chris is optimistic that he will get married again one day. In a recent interview, he detailed how some of his darkest times personally revolved around him grappling with his sexual identity.

In the end, he hopes those that read his book understand that, to an extent, everything he posted on social media was a lie. He explains that it was just a version of the bigger truth. Chris believes that’s something we’re all guilty of. Your Roots Don’t Define You is now available in stores.
