Latest Donald Trump Approval Rating Poll Showcases Major Changes

Donald Trump’s approval rating has declined during the first year of his second term as U.S. president. When he won the election, and in the early months of his new term, his approval rating was already lower than that of several previous presidents at the same stage. As months progress, it has fallen further, with Trump also losing ground on some of the key issues that once gave him an edge and helped him triumph in the first election.

Here’s what Donald Trump’s approval rating poll says

In January 2025, Trump was elected as the president of the United States, and now, a year into his second term, his approval rating has taken a massive hit. The decline in the approval rating was witnessed during the first few months of his term, when he stood at 47%. In the months that followed, his ratings dropped further to 40%, with polls ranging between 39% and 45%. This standing is roughly similar to where he stood during the first year of his first term, as well as to former President Joe Biden’s standing at the same stage of his presidency (via NBC News).

In 2024, Trump campaigned strongly on lowering grocery prices, a stance that he says played a key role in helping him win the election. However, the public lost confidence in his promise when he showed uncertainty over making the price change. Moreover, it also didn’t sit well with many, given how he’d been dealing with matters around immigration and the economy.

In an interview with Time, he addressed his earlier campaign, blaming the Biden-Harris administration for surging grocery prices. He added, “I don’t think so. Look, they got them up,” referring to the Biden-Harris administration. “I’d like to bring them down. It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up. You know, it’s very hard.”

However, Trump has also said that his stance on border security played a key role in his second-term election win. Polling suggests that border security remains one of his strongest issues. Despite strong backing for Trump within the Republican Party, the GOP may face challenges in the midterm elections, as its influence appears to be shrinking. More voters express a preference for Democrats to take control of Congress.
