The Academy evidently was not as big a fan of Wicked: For Good as the original. Either that or Sinners and other films last year were simply better in their eyes. The sequel to Wicked has collected over $500 million at the box office. They’ve gotten no love from the Oscars, though, with the 2025 film failing to earn a single nomination.
Voters evidently leaned more towards Sinners and other movies, and clearly, there just wasn’t enough room for Wicked: For Good on the ballot. It’s a sharp contrast to the 2025 Oscars, when the original Wicked movie received 10 nominations, winning for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design.
Wicked: For Good got zero nominations, while Sinners got the most Oscars noms ever

We no longer have to speculate about how many golden statuettes the cast and crew of the latest Wicked movie will collect. The sequel was among the biggest snubs when the nominations came out with no one on the ballot.
Last year’s film, directed by John M. Chu, got five nominations at the Golden Globes earlier this month. The Oscars honor the industry’s finest stars and movies over the past 12 months. Apparently, in the eyes of those voting, Wicked: For Good was not among the best over that span. Two of the Wicked stars, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, are starring in a new musical.
The buzz heading into Oscar night this year will be on Sinners. The Ryan Coogler-directed horror film got a record 16 nominations. That breaks the previous record of 14 held by La La Land. At the Golden Globes this year, Sinners had seven nominations, with two wins.
Sinners star Michael B. Jordan is up for Best Actor at the Oscars this year, Ryan is up for Best Director, and the film has earned a nomination for Best Picture.
The next film to earn the most love from Oscar voters was One Battle After Another, which earned 13 nominations. Marty Supreme, Frankenstein, and Sentimental Value were all next at eight. The 98th Academy Awards hosted by Conan O’Brien will occur on March 15.
TELL US – WHO ON THE WICKED: FOR GOOD CAST SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED AN OSCAR NOMINATION?
