The View hosts have never been shy in airing out their views on Donald Trump, and Friday was no different.
On the January 23 episode, host Sunny Hostin laid out a theory about why Trump sought re-election in 2024. Sunny endorsed Kamala Harris’s election bid during the election. Following Kamala’s election loss, Sunny said the current President’s victory was a result of racism and sexism.
Sunny Hostin has come out swinging against President Trump on The View
On Friday’s episode, the women of The View spoke Jack Smith’s recent testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. During the testimony, Smith claimed he found evidence that Trump “willfully broke the law” by keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago, Florida estate.
Smith also said that it was “proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in criminal activity,” and had certainly interfered in the 2020 election.
Sunny’s co-host Joy Behar asked why, in light of Smith’s evidence, Trump wasn’t in jail for breaking a serious federal law.
“If no one is above the law, and even if he did win the election, why isn’t he in jail?” Joy asked.
According to Sunny, the Department of Justice has determined that a sitting president cannot be indicted or prosecuted. “It’s been DOJ policy for a long time,” Sunny told Joy.
“I’ve said this before. I really do believe that the reason President Trump ran for the office of presidency again is because he wanted to avoid going to jail.”
The hosts went on to discuss Trump’s recent remarks at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. During the conference, Trump reiterated his plans to make Greenland the 51st state of the United States of America. The President also added the plans would continue with or without the consent of Greenland’s citizens.
Sunny referred to Trump’s behavior in Davos as “deeply unserious and so deeply unpresidential.” She also said that Trump’s Greenland policy was an act of an “imperialist President.”
