During a global pandemic, Pete Davidson wanted to make sure he was prepared to wait it out. While many were scrambling to get their hands on toilet paper, canned goods, and water, among other things, the comedian had other ideas during COVID.
Pete decided to go very old school with his spending, purchasing a collection of something you might have thought was outdated. He says he had a hunch that, although you rarely, if ever, see them anymore, that this product may pay off handsomely for him.
Pete Davidson bought 10,000 VHS tapes during COVID

Of all the products available in stores during COVID, it’s unlikely there were many, if any, VHS tapes. Apparently, that’s not only because VCRs are a thing of the past. On Monday’s edition of The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, Pete confessed to purchasing “10,000 VHS tapes” during the pandemic. His reason was, “I had this weird hunch that VHSes would be worth billions of dollars.” All the tapes he bought were sealed.
The fact that they hadn’t been opened led him to believe he could rake in some fat stacks by selling those copies. While it’s not been a terribly successful business venture, Pete says that he’s learned a valuable lesson. He says that he looks at them every day as a reminder “not to do drugs.” That’s something he’s spoken very candidly about in the past, undergoing treatment for that addiction multiple times.
Pete and his wife, Elsie Hewitt, welcomed a new baby in December. They shared photos of the new arrival last month, calling her “the perfect girl.”
By the sounds of it, Pete seems to have a love for products that many would deem outdated. He did a shoot for eBay last month expressing his love for minivans. Pete says he hates his current car and will take his minivan everywhere.
