Sarah Ferguson is reportedly facing an “emotionally” unsettling transition as she prepares to leave Royal Lodge, the sprawling Windsor estate she has called home for decades. Now, sources have said that the 66-year-old former duchess is bracing herself for what they describe as a deeply “jarring” shift in circumstances.

Sarah Ferguson loses ‘stability’ with ’emotionally jarring’ Royal Lodge exit, says source

After years of living at the 31-room, Grade II-listed mansion alongside Sarah Ferguson’s ex-husband, former Prince Andrew, she is now preparing to vacate the property entirely. Royal Lodge, once home to the Queen Mother, served as Andrew’s base under a long-term lease and remained Ferguson’s residence even after the pair divorced in 1996. Despite their separation, they continued living together there for years.

Recently, sources told RadarOnline that her next home will be a one-bedroom “granny annexe” on the grounds of her daughter Princess Beatrice’s Oxfordshire property. According to those close to the situation, the move has taken a heavy emotional toll. “The prospect of leaving Royal Lodge has been emotionally jarring for Sarah,” a source explained. “It represents the end of a long period of stability in her life. She feels as though circumstances beyond her control are forcing her hand, leaving her with limited choices and little room to maneuver.”

The source added that Ferguson feels increasingly on edge as she prepares to move forward without Andrew. Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, reportedly renovated the outbuilding on their Oxfordshire property, formerly a cattle shed, into a year-round, livable space. Planning records indicate extensive upgrades to transform the structure into a comfortable residence.

“From a purely practical standpoint, the arrangement makes a great deal of sense,” the insider said. “It allows Sarah to be near her daughter and remain part of daily family life, while still giving everyone their own space and privacy.” Family considerations reportedly play a major role in Ferguson’s decision. Sources say she shares a particularly close bond with her granddaughter, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi.
