A story involving actor Timothée Chalamet being threatened by an extra on the set of Marty Supreme has received criticism, amid allegations made against the film’s director, Josh Safdie.
Josh’s brother and former collaborator, Benny Safdie, allegedly cut ties with Josh after an incident on the set of their 2017 film, Good Time. According to sources, an underage girl was cast as a prostitute in the film involving nudity, which saw an actor she had a scene with expose himself to her. A recent conversation Timothée had with fellow actor Robert Downey Jr. has brought more attention to Josh’s on-set environments.
Timothée Chalamet explained how an extra on Marty Supreme threatened him
“I won’t say who, but in that motel sequence, there are a lot of non-actors, Timothée told Robert during a recent Q&A per The Movie Buddy.
From there, Timothée told the Oscar Winner, the situation got out of hand. “I’m really getting in the guy’s face, and I’m really trying to get him angry with me. I was saying to Josh, ‘He’s not getting angry with me, he’s not getting angry with me.'”
Soon, the lead actor quickly found out he was mistaken about the extra’s anger. “I did another take, and then the guy said, ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don’t want to f*ck with me. You don’t want to see me angry.”
After that, Timothée reportedly nervously laughed when recalling the experience. “I said to Josh, ‘Holy sh*t, who do you have me opposite, man?’”
The story serves as a second example of Benny’s alleged issue with his brother’s filmmaking approach. Here, there appears to be another instance of Josh failing to vet his actors before shooting starts. The two instances, if true, are failures to provide legal safety requirements on set.
