‘Obsessed’ Dax Shepard Plays Matchmaker for Sabrina Carpenter & This Star

Dax Shepard has never been shy about his pop culture crushes, but his latest one comes with a very specific plan — and it involves Sabrina Carpenter and “SNL” star Marcello Hernandez. In the January 26 segment of Shepard’s “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard” podcast, the host admitted he has Carpenter on the brain. He went as far as to declare that he is “obsessed” with her.

Dax Shepard is ‘obsessed’ with Sabrina Carpenter, urges Marcello Hernandez to date her

Dax Shepard told Marcello Hernandez that he recently saw Sabrina Carpenter live with his daughter and left the show fully hooked. He admitted on the podcast, “I am newly obsessed with her through my daughter,” adding, “Thank God. I went and saw Sabrina Carpenter [a] month ago with my daughter. I just love her.”

Shepard added he watched Carpenter when she hosted “Saturday Night Live,” and it turned him into even more of a fan. He said, “She’s fantastic.” Besides, Carpenter’s background as an actor made a lot of it click for him. Meanwhile, Hernandez, for his part, confirmed he actually knows Carpenter, and Shepard took the opportunity to try to turn that into a romantic endeavor, admitting, “If I’m you again and I’m 28, I’m going to try to date her with all my might.”

However, the comedian didn’t exactly play along. Hernandez made it clear he isn’t available. He confessed, “I’m in a relationship,” and kept it respectful while still praising Carpenter and sharing that he’s “in a relationship with a Dominican girl.” He gushed about his girlfriend, telling the hosts, “She’s an architect,” and “She’s unreal. She went to Yale.”

Still, Hernandez described Carpenter as “really funny and cool,” and Dax Shepard just wrapped it as a compliment, both to Carpenter and to Hernandez. Though Shepard could not land a love connection, he turned a celebrity crush into a moment people will replay — and give Carpenter a nudge that her fan club now includes a famous podcast host.
