Sydney Sweeney rocked the internet once again with the launch of her new lingerie line, SYRN. Besides being the sole founder of the intimate apparel brand, she chose to model the pieces herself. Sweeney is now pushing back against criticism surrounding SYRN, addressing claims that it caters to the “male gaze.”
Sydney Sweeney talks lingerie line as empowerment for women in Cosmopolitan interview
Sydney Sweeney defended SYRN’s vision, emphasizing empowerment, confidence, and personal choice in an interview with Cosmopolitan. She said, “People will say, ‘Oh, she’s doing this for guys, ‘ or ‘Oh, she’s a guy’s girl.’ But I’m like, ‘What is more girl’s girl than owning your body and doing it for yourself?’ I want it to be their choice—the choice of the wearer—whether this is for them, for somebody else, or for a camera lens.”
The first from the “Anyone But You” star’s new lingerie line came on January 28, featuring pieces from the persona, ‘Seductress.’ The brand features three other personas into which the lingerie is divided. These are ‘Playful,’ ‘Comfy,’ and ‘Romantic.’ SYRN is available in 44 different sizes, ranging from 30B to 42DDD. Additionally, most of the styles are priced under $100.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Sweeney opened up about the nonnegotiables behind building SYRN. She revealed that the design team is entirely female and that the models represent a range of body types. Sweeney emphasized that making every woman feel comfortable and confident in SYRN lingerie was one of her top priorities.
The 28-year-old star explained that she refuses to create anything she wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing herself. Sweeney also reflected on a cherished lingerie piece she relied on for years, recalling, “In sixth grade, I was a 32 DD, and I remember going to the store to get my first wire bra. It was silk and the only bra I felt good in. I wore it until it literally had holes in it.” She added that her goal is to design underwear that stays with women over time.
