George Clooney features in Super Bowl ad
George Clooney‘s Super Bowl commercial debut is shaping up to be an unforgettable one.
The actor stars in Grubhub’s inaugural Super Bowl commercial, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos. The 30-second advertisement will air during Super Bowl 2026, marking Clooney’s first appearance in a national Super Bowl ad.
“When I heard Yorgos Lanthimos was directing his first Super Bowl spot for Grubhub, and they called and asked me to be a part of it, I was thrilled,” the 64-year-old told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview. “He’s one of my favorite directors.”
The highly anticipated commercial takes place in an opulent castle. Guests in formal attire are gathered for a sumptuous dinner party featuring an array of takeout dishes. As the night reaches its climax, the atmosphere turns dramatic with the arrival of the final course: the fees.
George Clooney’s character breaks the tension, announcing the campaign’s key message. Grubhub will eat the fees – waiving delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50.
According to Grubhub, this new initiative represents a sustainable shift in strategy, rather than a temporary promotion. It targets a major concern for customers: added fees on orders over $50. These fees can average around $13 across delivery platforms.
“It’s a great way to tell people that they agree the fees are annoying,” the ER star explained.
George Clooney says working with Lanthimos on the commercial felt just like working on one of his film sets, despite it being their first commercial collaboration. He calls the final result a compact, two-minute Yorgos Lanthimos film, packaged as a spectacle for the Super Bowl.
