Fans of Wuthering Heights are counting down the days until the film’s much-anticipated release later this month. Ahead of that, Heathcliff actor Jacob Elordi just revealed he suffered an injury during filming … and had to be hospitalized.
Jacob Elordi opens up about a mishap in the midst of filming
In an interview with Esquire, Jacob chatted alongside director Emerald Fennell and reflected on shooting the movie.
“Siân Miller, the make-up artist, was designing the scars from the whips for Heathcliff’s back,” Jacob recalled. He then explained how Siân previously worked with actors who took “method” acting so far as to get actual scars. “Well, I’m going to go away and maim myself on the weekend to prove to you that I’m Heathcliff!” Jacob jokingly responded to her at the time.
But it seems that Jacob jinxed himself in saying that.
“That night I went home, and the house I was staying in had a steam shower,” he explained, adding that the steam came from a “brass knob” in the wall. “I went to clean my feet, and I leant back, and my back seared into the steam knob,” he went on. “I stood up screaming; it tore up my back. When I went to work on Monday, I had a second-degree burn.”
Chiming in to that, Emerald said the incident left her pretty shook up. “I think that was in the first week of shooting,” she recalled. “I got a text from Josey McNamara, the producer, saying, ‘Jacob’s in hospital’.”
Emerald continued: “Obviously, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s had a car accident,’ and then he was like, ‘He’s burnt his back in the shower.’”
Luckily, Jacob was able to recover and make it back on set to finish filming the movie. And he probably took a little more care in the shower.
