Mark Ruffalo blasts Kevin O’Leary over Billie Eilish comment
In a Threads post on Thursday, Mark Ruffalo slammed Kevin O’Leary for his recent remarks against Billie Eilish. “Kevin O’Leary, why don’t you STFU. It’s hilarious,” Ruffalo penned. “You will go on any show and talk shit about any number of things and smugly expect us to listen to you, but you will dig into a real artist that dwarfs anything you dream of doing for actually saying something that resonates with 100’s of millions of people the world over.”
The Avengers actor concluded with, “It’s astounding the fantasy double standard Kevin O’Leary lives in. You played yourself well in Marty Supreme.” Ruffalo’s statement comes as a pointed response to O’Leary’s remarks against Eilish and other celebrities who share their political opinion. Speaking with Fox News’ America Reports on Tuesday, the Shark Tank star stated, “Half the people in politics that you piss off won’t buy your music anymore. Don’t be stupid about it, but hey, they don’t listen.”
O’Leary added, “It’s the first lesson 101 for celebrity: As you rise up, whether you’re a film star, a music star [or] whatever, shut your mouth and just entertain.” During her acceptance speech for Song of the Year at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, Eilish gave a powerful statement against Trump’s controversial policy on immigration. “I feel so honored every time I get to be in this room. As grateful as I feel, I honestly don’t feel like I need to say anything but that no one is illegal on stolen land,” the singer said.
Eilish continued, “I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting. And our voices really do matter, and the people matter.” The singer concluded, saying, “F*** ICE. That’s all I’m going to say. Sorry. Thank you so much.” She also wore an “ICE OUT” pin to protest against the organization.
