Donald Trump’s latest unhinged social media post is drawing outrage from members of his own party. On his account was an AI depiction of Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. Democrats have slammed the Truth Social post, calling it a brand new low for him.
Tim Scott, a Black junior United States Senator from South Carolina, took exception to the post as well. Online, he said that he hoped this was fake because for him it’s the “most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.”
Republican Tim Scott has spoken out about President Trump’s post
If Donald was trying to make a joke with this post, no one found it funny. On his X account, Tim said, “The President should remove it.” The White House has confirmed that Trump did, in fact, make the post, but has also defended him. In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says it’s an internet meme video depicting the President as the king of the jungle and the Democrats as characters from The Lion King.
Tim isn’t the only Republican who took issue with the post; however, there are others. New York Representative Mike Lawler called the post wrong and offensive, whether on purpose or not. He also demanded that Trump remove it.
It is far from the first time Donald has stirred up controversy online. In December, many were appalled by his Truth Social rant against Rob Reiner. He said that the late director suffered from “Trump derangement syndrome.”
The NAACP spoke out against Trump’s recent post. They call it a stark reminder of how Donald and his followers truly view people. They add that they’ll remember that in November. February is Black History Month, an annual observance in the United States.
