Jake Paul appears to be slightly backtracking on his Super Bowl halftime show remarks. The boxer and influencer had initially encouraged people to boycott the festivities on Sunday, which were headlined by Bad Bunny.
He’d called the Latin superstar a fake American, saying he cannot support that, nor should others. The rapper, who has released six studio albums, is originally from Puerto Rico, which is an American territory. The polarizing boxer seemingly changed his mind about the rapper on X saying, “i love bad bunny.”
Jake Paul is messing with followers on social media after ranting about Bad Bunny
Jake’s initial plea to fans about the halftime show may have been misconstrued. At least that’s how he sees it. After initially telling people online to rally together and not watch Bad Bunny’s show, Jake made a few more posts to clarify his stance. Jake said that “Bunny is fake bc of his values and criticism of our great country.” In early January, Jake was hit with a suspension in the aftermath of his fight with Anthony Joshua.
Bad Bunny had previously called out Donald Trump’s administration at the Grammys this year, saying, “ICE out!” in his acceptance speech. Jake claims that his initial fake American statement was misinterpreted. In another post, he says that he isn’t calling anyone a fake citizen, adding he lives in Puerto Rico and loves it. Jake adds that he’s used his platform to support the American territory time and again.
For Jake, his problem is the rapper’s public criticism of ICE, which the boxer claims are doing their job. That and Bad Bunny allegedly hating on America, according to Jake, were what he didn’t appreciate.
His last tweet insisted he loved Bad Bunny while he wondered what happened to the backlash on his X account last night. The singer’s album Debi Tirar Más Fotos became the first Spanish-language album to win Album of the Year at this year’s Grammys.
