Dax Shepard is lucky to be alive today. The podcast host is opening up about his past, and one moment he will never forget.
Dax shared a story about a time in his younger years when he nearly died. He has discussed his issues with substance abuse before, one which seemed to be recurring until his late teenage years. While those memories are likely to stay with him forever, so will the time he nearly lost his life.
Dax Shepard almost died in a car crash as a teen

Getting a second chance is something we should never take lightly, and Dax may be living proof of that. The husband of Kristen Bell had a moment in his teenage years that he was fortunate to escape relatively unscathed. On Monday’s episode of Armchair Expert, Dax discussed his harrowing experience. He recalls sitting in the back seat of a friend’s car, heading from Toledo to Detroit.
His friend assured him he was fine and set the cruise control at 85 miles per hour. Before Dax could put the seat back and relax, he says that he could hear gravel hitting the side of the car, while his friend had fallen asleep at the wheel. “I’m like seconds away from dying,” thought Dax at the time. He says the vehicle veered off the road before sliding sideways, surrounded by pine trees.
Before the car began to flip, Dax says that he felt this was the end for him. Incredibly, though, the car didn’t end up hitting a tree. Even more incredible was that Dax says he went from sheer panic to a state of calmness in a short period as this was transpiring. In the end, he says that the car rolled 10 times, and when it stopped, it was flat. Fortunately, he and his friend managed to crawl out of the windows without any serious injuries.
Escaping that incident has left a lasting impact on him. He says since then, he’s never been able to fall asleep in a vehicle.
